Presley Gerber, son of the famous American model Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, died this Sunday at the age of 27 in a rehabilitation center in Los Angeles, according to local media that cited a representative of the family.
The death was confirmed by Allie Jenkins, representative of Crawford and Gerber, through an email response to media such as People magazine and CNN.
The causes of his death have not been specified.
The magazine reported that the Los Angeles County coroner’s office also confirmed the death of the young man, brother of the model and actress Kaia Gerber, in a rehabilitation center in Los Angeles without specifying the causes of death.
“The family asks for privacy during this difficult and painful time,” was the representative’s response to some of the media, including TMZ, which was the first digital portal to report the death.
Addiction problems
Presley Gerber himself had spoken openly about his mental health problems and drug use, according to local media. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office reported that Gerber died on Sunday while at a rehabilitation center in the city of Los Angeles, although the results of the autopsy remain to be known.
Born in California in 1999, Gerber was one of the two children that Crawford had with businessman Rande Gerber and, like his sister, Kaia Gerber, he began in the world of modeling at an early age since he debuted on the catwalk for the Italian brand Moschino at just 16 years old.
He also walked for brands such as Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana and Bottega Veneta, as well as for the American brands Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren and participated in advertising campaigns for Calvin Klein, Celine, Pepsi and Omega while appearing in magazines such as “GQ Style” and “The New York Times Style Magazine”, recalls CNN.
In recent years, Gerber had spoken openly about his mental health issues and drug use. In 2023, during his participation in the “Studio 22” podcast, he spoke about using his platforms to raise awareness about mental health, describing this topic as “a very important part of my life.”
She launched her own initiative, “Mental Health Mondays,” and collaborated with non-governmental organizations, including “A Sense of Home”—a Los Angeles charity dedicated to helping the homeless—as reported by DNA Model Management.
Last December, Gerber posted a video on Instagram in which she talked about the medications she took, including antidepressants and Xanax for panic attacks. “Sadly, I have suffered a lot of loss in various ways lately,” he said in the video, which was later deleted. “It’s not an excuse, but it’s the reason I’m in this situation now,” CNN explains.
Earlier this month, Kaia also opened up about her brother’s addiction issues in Vogue magazine’s US edition cover story. “When something like that happens in a family, it kind of puts us all on the same level,” he said.
