The Military Emergency Unit (UME) has rescued a person alive after remaining trapped under rubble for 72 hours in the Vistamar residential area of La Guaira, one of the areas most affected by the earthquakes in Venezuela.
That is the area chosen by the 59 UME troops displaced to the country to participate in the emergency operation deployed to work on the search and rescue of victims. This is in addition to the three, an elderly person and his two grandchildren, carried out by the Emergency and Immediate Response Team of the Community of Madrid (ERICAM) among the rubble of another collapsed building, as reported by the Emergency Service 112 of the Community of Madrid.
Venezuela is experiencing crucial hours this Saturday for the rescue of the victims who were trapped after the collapse of several buildings, especially in the state of La Guaira, due to the two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 last Wednesday, which have already left at least 1,430 dead, according to official figures from the Venezuelan Government.
Spanish death toll increases
The latest report provided this Saturday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the situation of Spaniards affected by Thursday’s devastating earthquakes in Venezuela brings the number of Spaniards who died to six and maintains the previous figures of 133 missing and 14 citizens located but buried under the rubble caused by the tremors.
“Foreign Affairs insists that all consular emergency lines, which can be consulted on social networks of the Ministry and the Embassy in Caracas, are open and Spaniards in Venezuela are asked to use them,” Foreign Affairs sources confirm in statements to Europa Press.
