Eleven people have died when the small plane in which they were traveling to skydive crashed on the outskirts of the city of Nancy, in eastern France, as reported by authorities. The prefect of the department, Yves Seguy, confirmed to the press that “at this moment” there are 11 fatalities, with no “collateral effects” of the incident.
According to the local media L’Est Republicain, the deceased are five instructors, five students and the pilot. According to the same media, the crashed device is a “Pilatus” registered in Germany, commonly used for parachute jumps. The causes of the accident are unknown at this time.
In a message published on social media, the prefecture of Meurthe-et-Moselle confirmed that the accident involved “a civil aircraft that had taken off from the Nancy-Essey airfield.” The accident occurred around 11:00 a.m. (09:00 GMT), near a supermarket in Tomblaine, on a road adjacent to the commercial area.
