29 Suspected Yoruba Nation Agitators Arraigned by Oyo Police

Before the Chief Magistrates Court in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, 29 individuals suspected of being Yoruba Nation agitators were brought for arraignment on Wednesday. They were accused of participating in the unsuccessful attempt to invade the Governor’s Office and the state House of Assembly.

Referred to as case Mi/520c/2024, the trial involves the Commissioner of Police and the 29 suspects.

Over the weekend on April 13, 2024, a group of masked individuals believed to be Yoruba Nation agitators tried to raise their flag at the state secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan, before being restrained by security forces.

The charges against them include seven counts of treasonable felony, unlawful society, illegal possession of firearms, and behavior likely to incite a breach of peace.

The Investigative Police Officer handling the case, Bakare Rasaq, an inspector from the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku, Ibadan, stated that the offense goes against Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

The State Commissioner of Police, Hamzat Adebola, had presented a group of 20 suspects during a parade on Monday.
