Young Progressives Party urges Nigerian government to reconsider Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project

In light of criticisms from the opposition, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) is advising the Federal Government to reassess its decision to proceed with the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, YPP National Publicity Secretary Mr. Egbeola Martins emphasized the importance of prioritizing other sectors in need of immediate attention over the Lagos-Calabar project.

Martins suggested that the government should focus on critical sectors requiring urgent intervention before embarking on new projects.

He referenced a popular saying, highlighting the significance of scheduling priorities over prioritizing one’s schedule, especially during a time of economic hardship exacerbated by insensitive policies.

While acknowledging the necessity of the Lagos-Calabar coastal project, Martins argued that it is not the most pressing concern for the government at the moment.

He emphasized the need to address issues such as the deteriorating state of education, healthcare, electricity supply, escalating insecurity, and growing poverty in the country.

Given the multitude of abandoned projects like the Ajaokuta steel project, East-West Road, and the Lagos-Abuja Supersonic Highway scattered nationwide, Martins recommended halting the Lagos-Calabar project.
