Yobe Governor Pardons 33 Inmates During Ramadan

During the observance of Ramadan this year, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has granted clemency to 33 inmates from different correctional facilities in the state.

A statement by Alhassan Sule Mamudo, the Information Officer of the Yobe State Ministry of Justice, disclosed this development to journalists in Damaturu on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the inmates were pardoned following the recommendation of the Yobe State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, overseen by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Saleh Samanja.

Before the inmates were released, the Advisory Council conducted visits to the correctional services in Potiskum, Nguru, and Gashu’a for the purpose of granting clemency. The Attorney General mentioned that assessments were carried out in all correctional facilities across the state to determine the deserving candidates for executive pardon.

After thorough considerations, the advisory council compiled a list of 33 inmates for review by His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni, the Executive Governor of Yobe State. Subsequently, Governor Buni graciously accepted and endorsed their release to grant them freedom through his executive order,” Samanja stated.

The statement further mentioned that on the eve of Ramadan, Governor Mai Mala Buni sanctioned the distribution of food palliatives to all correctional facilities in the state, allowing the inmates to partake in the blessings of the Ramadan season.
