The meeting scheduled for this Friday in Switzerland between the American and Iranian teams for the implementation of the understanding agreement has been “postponed”, as confirmed by the Swiss Foreign Ministry, after Pakistan, which acts as a mediator in the process, announced the cancellation of the meeting.
“The first negotiations on the implementation of the agreement were scheduled for Friday, June 19, 2026 in Bürgenstock, in the canton of Nidwalden. These have been postponed for the moment,” Swiss diplomacy said in a statement in which it indicated Switzerland’s willingness to “facilitate the talks.”
This same Friday, the deputy prime minister and foreign minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, stated that the country’s prime minister and mediator in the negotiations between Iran and the United States, Shehbaz Sharif, will not travel to Switzerland as planned, and that the meeting between delegations “has been cancelled” after the telematic signing.
The White House hopes that talks can begin “as soon as possible”
“Plans for the next technical talks have not yet been finalized, and the US delegation was prepared to depart as soon as possible,” the White House explained in a statement released to US media such as The Hill news portal.
In it, he alleges that “the logistics of these negotiations have never been simple or predictable” and that the vice president would not leave on Thursday night (early morning on Friday in Spain).
However, the White House has indicated that it will report “as soon as” it has “concrete news about the next steps” and has expressed the hope that “technical conversations” can begin “as soon as possible.”
Israel continues bombing Lebanon and France asks it to stop its attacks
Just hours after signing the peace agreement between the US and Iran, Israel continues bombing Lebanon. This Thursday, and just a few hours after the signing of the agreement, Israel carried out a deadly attack in southern Lebanon.
France has already asked Israel to stop its attacks in Lebanon and has stressed that the US must “put pressure” to achieve this.
The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot, has stressed that Israel must end hostilities in Lebanon and has stated that the United States “must exert the necessary pressure” on the Israeli Government to take this step, after the signing of the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran to move towards peace in the Middle East.
“This agreement stipulates the cessation of hostilities, and the Israeli Government must respect it. The United States, in particular, must exert all necessary pressure on the Israeli Government to guarantee its compliance,” Barrot said in an interview with the France Info radio station.
These words have come on a day in which the Israeli Army has confirmed the death of four soldiers in Hezbollah attacks, while at least 18 people have died and more than 30 have been injured due to Israeli bombings against various points in southern Lebanon.
Israel has indicated on several occasions that it will not withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon and has continued its attacks against the country despite the memorandum of understanding signed by the United States and Iran, while Hezbollah has stated that it will maintain its operations as long as Israeli forces remain present in Lebanese territory and do not adhere to the ceasefire.
