Victor Ikpeba predicts Super Falcons’ success in the ‘Group of Death’ at Paris 2024

Former Super Eagles striker, Victor Ikpeba, is confident that the Super Falcons will advance from the challenging group stage at the 2024 Olympic Games.

Randy Waldrum’s squad has been placed in a formidable group alongside reigning champions Spain, Japan, and Brazil.

In their previous Olympic outing, the Super Falcons fell short of progressing beyond the group stage.

Despite this, Ikpeba envisions a more promising campaign for the nine-time African champions this time.

Ikpeba, a member of Nigeria’s U-23 team that clinched the men’s football gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, boldly stated, “Super Falcons will secure a spot in this ‘Group of Death’.”

Reflecting on past experiences, Ikpeba remarked, “Back in the 1996 Olympics, we were underestimated in a tough group against Brazil, Japan, and Hungary.”

“Yet, we defied the odds and made history by clinching Africa’s first Olympic Gold,” he added.

The former African Footballer of the Year emphasized the crucial need for the Super Falcons to undergo thorough preparation for the upcoming competition.

“It is imperative for the Falcons to have early preparations, possibly in France for two to three weeks as we did in 1996 when we trained in the USA,” Ikpeba emphasized.

“The sooner they prepare, the better the team’s chances,” he concluded.
