Vice President Shettima: Tinubu’s Pledge to Alleviate Poverty in Nigeria

Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized that President Bola Tinubu’s government is dedicated to enhancing the average Nigerian’s quality of life and lifting them out of poverty.

He highlighted that the administration’s commitment is evident in various policies and programs designed to leverage the country’s vast population under the Renewed Hope initiative.

During a courtesy meeting with a delegation from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), led by Dr. Natalia Kanem, the Executive Director, Shettima emphasized the significance of not just numbers but qualitative numbers.

Shettima stressed that the administration’s emphasis on women and children stems from the belief that a nation’s well-being is gauged by the treatment of its female population.

He underscored the transformative impact of educating girls on community development, stating, “By educating the girl child, we can transform our communities into better places for everyone.”

Expressing gratitude for UNFPA’s continuous support to Nigeria, Shettima affirmed the government’s alignment with UNFPA’s goals and aspirations.

The Vice President reminisced about UNFPA’s pivotal role during his tenure as the Executive Governor of Borno State, especially during challenging times.

He appealed to UNFPA and other partners to collaborate with the Tinubu administration to achieve its objectives of enhancing Nigerians’ welfare and well-being.

Dr. Kanem, the UNFPA Executive Director, lauded the enduring partnership with Nigeria since 1973 and invited the Nigerian President to the launch of the State of World Population report in Abuja on April 24.
