URGENT UPDATE: EFCC Issues Warrant for the Arrest of Yahaya Bello, Former Governor of Kogi State, on Money Laundering Charges

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has officially declared the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, as a wanted individual.

This action comes as a result of Bello’s failure to appear before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday to face charges of alleged money laundering amounting to N84 billion.

In a statement posted on its verified Facebook page on Thursday, the anti-corruption agency has called on Nigerians who may have pertinent information regarding Bello’s current location to report such information to the nearest police station.

The EFCC’s social media post reads, “Wanted by EFCC: Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello. The former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is being sought after by EFCC for his involvement in economic and financial crimes totaling N80.2 Billion.

“Any individual with knowledge of his whereabouts is urged to promptly contact the Commission or the closest Police Station.”

Preceding the scheduled arraignment, a joint team comprising EFCC operatives, the Department of State Services, the Police, and other security units, conducted a search at Bello’s residence in Abuja on Wednesday.

However, he managed to exit the premises undetected with the help of the current governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo.
