Update on Italian man with Coronavirus: Lagos Health Commissioner, Prof Abayomi

According to Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi, the Italian national who is Nigeria’s first confirmed case of coronavirus still has traces of the virus and will continue to be isolated until all test results show negative.

During a press briefing, Abayomi stated that the Italian’s health is improving, but for public safety, he will remain at the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba.

“The Italian’s condition continues to improve. However, our recent test results indicate that he still has the potential to spread the virus. It is global practice to await two consecutive negative test results 48 hours apart before discharging a coronavirus patient. Additional tests on his lung and urine secretions are planned. Once he tests negative, he will be discharged. The secondary case, who initially tested positive and later negative, has already been discharged as he has recovered from the virus,” said the commissioner.
