Recent times have seen a rise in kidnapping and bandit activities in the FCT.

In January 2024, the Special Intervention Squad of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command took down three notorious bandits in a forest located in the Bwari area of Abuja.

The same month saw the elimination of a prominent kidnapper called Janari, responsible for numerous abductions in Kaduna State and Abuja, along with some of his associates during operations carried out by the air component of Operation Whirl Punch in Kaduna State.

Additionally, in February, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command arrested a pastor named Simon Kado, his relative Jesse Simon-Kado, and their driver, Muhammad Isah, on charges of trafficking 12 underage children – eight girls and four boys aged between five and 16 years old, from Nasarawa State to Ogun State.
