The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has spoken out about the controversy unleashed by those responsible for the artificial intelligence (AI) sector who have asked the industry to “slow down.” The tycoon has denounced in a publication in Truth Social that there is “a sick conspiracy.”
He has also assured that the “only control” that AI needs is “a strong and intelligent president (with a high IQ!) and the United States has plenty of that!” Thus, he has listed some achievements that his Administration has achieved, such as “AI people doing bad or potentially bad things.”
Criticism against China
Furthermore, he recalled that there is already “an enormous criminal and regulatory burden on these companies”, so more controls or regulations are not necessary, and he has attacked China because, he asserts, it is “the only one that is happy about it.” “Whoever wins in AI is going to win and we are ahead of China and everyone else, and we will continue to do so,” he added.
“Conspiracy theorists, seditionists, traitors and leakers: beware!” the US president has warned in the midst of the new controversy.
The possible effects derived from the misuse of AI
Everything has arisen after the call to attention from the co-founder and CEO of Anthropic, Dario Amodei, who has asked to “slow down the pace” of development of the capabilities of AI models. In an open letter, Amodei has noted that although AI has the potential to positively transform society, it can have catastrophic risks.
His rivals Sam Altman, from OpenAI, and Elon Musk, from xAI, have also joined this warning, an unprecedented fact within the sector. In an interview on CBS’ ‘Sunday Morning’, Amodei stated that “the industry lied” about the danger of AI, so the Government and citizens must intervene. Although Amodei has warned of the risks, it rules out prohibiting its use “completely.”
