Tragic Outcome Follows Consumption of Herbal Mixture in Ondo


Over the weekend, a sad incident occurred in Ipe-Akoko, located in Akoko South East Local Government Area of Ondo State, where two individuals lost their lives after ingesting herbal concoctions as part of a traditional festival.

The deceased, identified as Alex Ojulewa and Samuel Alonge, had just arrived in the community to take part in the age-grade traditional festival known as ‘Ibogbe’.

Eyewitnesses recounted how the two individuals started vomiting severely and rapidly deteriorated in health soon after consuming the mixture.

A witness named Tunji mentioned that despite efforts to swiftly transport them to the nearest medical facility, their condition continued to worsen, ultimately resulting in their demise before they could receive proper medical attention.

Upon being contacted regarding the incident, the Police spokesperson in the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed the occurrence and mentioned that an investigation had been initiated.

“A chief reported at the Isua police station that someone had prepared a native concoction (Agbo), which was consumed by three individuals, leading to them experiencing severe vomiting.

“Sadly, on the way to the hospital, Ojulewa Alex and Alonge Samuel passed away, while Adu Johnson was in a coma and receiving medical treatment. The investigative process is currently ongoing.”
