Tragic Incident: Woman Fatally Stabs Husband, Inflicts Self-harm in Quarrel over Food

The tragic incident occurred in Ikoli Village in Malava Constituency, Kakamega County, Kenya, where 36-year-old Bryan Indimuli lost his life after being fatally stabbed by his 25-year-old wife, Joy Indeche.

According to John Indimuli, the father of the deceased, the quarrel escalated when his son complained that Indeche tripped over a chair, causing the ugali (maize porridge eaten in east and central Africa) she was carrying to spill on the floor.

He explained, “My son suspected his wife had taken alcohol, hence her wobbly feet, which led to her tripping over and resulting in the fall of the ugali.”

Following her husband’s attempt to discipline her, Indeche grabbed a kitchen knife and viciously attacked him. She then turned the knife on herself, resulting in severe injuries. She is currently receiving medical treatment at Kakamega County Referral Hospital, with neighbors having rushed her there.

Ikoli Assistant Chief Walter Moses Namutali confirmed, “Her intestines were ripped out.”

Expressing regret over the frequent conflicts in his son’s marriage, John Indimuli disclosed, “One year ago, the two had gone separate ways before reuniting. My son had married Indeche when she had a daughter from a previous relationship. The two also had a son together.”

Mzee Indimuli, a police officer in Busia County, revealed that they buried the deceased on Saturday night as per the county government’s COVID-19 burial guidelines.
