Tragic Incident in Enugu: 2 Policemen and 4 Others Killed by Gunmen


A violent incident unfolded in Igga community located in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State recently, resulting in the deaths of two policemen and three members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group.

Reports indicate that following the attack on the security personnel, a retaliatory action was taken by soldiers and policemen who descended on the community, setting houses ablaze and firing weapons indiscriminately.

Amid the chaos, one civilian lost his life as a result of the combined security forces’ operation in response to the initial attack by unidentified gunmen.

In a statement confirming the tragedy, the spokesperson for the command, Daniel Ndukwe, denounced the senseless killings perpetrated by criminals harbored within the Igga Community.

The incident occurred during a security escort provided to a delegation of investors from Lagos who were touring a potential agricultural investment site on the same day.

An armed group ambushed the security team, resulting in the tragic loss of lives. While some members managed to escape, unfortunately, the policemen and Neighbourhood Watch Group operatives were not as fortunate.

Following an intensive investigation and manhunt, three suspects believed to be involved in orchestrating the attack were apprehended, leading to the recovery of the deceased bodies in a nearby forest.

The victims were later identified by medical professionals, and their bodies were transferred to the morgue for further examination.
