Tragic Accident in Anambra as Truck Collides with Motorcycle, Resulting in Two Fatalities

Two individuals lost their lives after being struck by a truck while riding a motorcycle.

The victims, identified as Cyprian Nwaigwe, 71, and Ikechukwu Nwabia, 65, tragically lost their lives when a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number XE 254 AWK collided with the motorcycle they were on, along Orlu-Ihiala road in Anambra state.

They were immediately taken to a hospital in Ihiala, where they were unfortunately pronounced dead.

Confirming the incident, Anambra State Police Command spokesman, SP Haruna Mohammed, stated that on Friday, March 14, 2020, around 3:30 pm, the driver of a Mercedes Benz truck with registration number XE 254 AWK, one Ekene Agusi of Amafor Oru West LGA of Imo State, collided with a Mate CY80 Motorcycle with Registration number KPP 192 QA.

He mentioned that the motorcycle rider and a passenger sustained severe injuries and were later pronounced dead in the hospital.

He reported: “Police operatives from the Motor Traffic Department in Ihiala Division immediately visited the scene, and transported the victims, namely Cyprian Nwaigwe and Ikechukwu Nwabia, to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for medical attention, but they were unfortunately declared dead by a medical doctor while receiving treatment.”

Additionally, the driver of the vehicle has been apprehended, and the victims’ bodies have been placed in the hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.

The case is currently under investigation.
