Tragedy as Man Drowns in Lagos Lagoon While Escaping Arrest

Reports have surfaced about a man known only as Azeez who tragically drowned in the Lagos lagoon while attempting to evade arrest over the alleged theft of bags of cement.

Confirming the incident to NAN on Sunday was SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Police Command in Lagos.

It was disclosed that the case was reported by the director of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) in Lagos Central at the Ikoyi Police Division around 12:20 PM on Friday.

The director stated that he received a distress call around 10:45 AM on Friday regarding an incident at the Lekki/Ikoyi Link Bridge.

Upon arrival at the scene, a large crowd had gathered by the waterside, witnessing the lifeless body of the drowned man, later identified as Azeez.

SP Hundeyin mentioned, “The deceased, Azeez, was confirmed dead by the paramedics of Pre Hospital Care, Lagos. It was revealed that Azeez jumped into the lagoon while being pursued by Elijah Amos, a cement seller, who accused him of theft.”

The police visited the scene, and the body was taken to the Mainland General Hospital Mortuary in Yaba for autopsy and preservation.
