The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly urges the Federal Government

In a recent statement, Dennis Guwor, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, called upon the federal government to prioritize the well-being of Nigerians by implementing fair taxation policies that do not place excessive burdens on the people.

During an interview in Asaba on Thursday, Guwor emphasized the importance of adopting transparent and people-friendly policies to attract more foreign direct investments to Nigeria.

Highlighting Delta State’s contribution to the national economy, he commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his first year in office, which he sees as a promising indicator for future progress.

Guwor praised Governor Oborevwori for building upon the achievements of the previous administration by completing ongoing projects and initiating new ones across the state.

Addressing concerns about regional favoritism, the Speaker refuted claims that the governor is solely focused on developing the Warri-Effurun area, asserting that development efforts are widespread, including in riverine regions.

According to Guwor, the decision to enhance infrastructure in Warri is aimed at fostering economic growth, rather than promoting sectional interests.

He also mentioned that the legislative branch has effectively carried out its oversight responsibilities, with a collaborative relationship with the executive branch.

Regarding the surge in electricity tariffs, Guwor disclosed that the governor has proposed a bill to re-enact the power sector law in Delta State, aiming to mitigate the impact of poor electricity supply and high tariffs on the citizens.

He highlighted that the combination of high tariffs and other factors has prompted several multinational companies to exit the country’s economy.
