The NFIU Reports IPOB Raises $160,000 Monthly Via Dues and Crowdfunding

A recent publication by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) has revealed that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have raised over $160,000 through monthly dues and crowdfunding campaigns.

According to the NFIU’s ‘Counter Terrorism Financial Newsletter’, the financial network of IPOB is sophisticated and connected to 54 individuals worldwide.

The investigation into the group’s financial activities unveiled that the diaspora affiliates of IPOB are present in 22 countries, with 27 entities registered globally under the group’s name. The US and the UK have the highest number of registrations with seven and six entities, respectively.

Various bank accounts in different countries are reportedly receiving funds for purposes like “Monthly Dues, Services, and for ESN” from multiple contributors. The NFIU confirmed that crowdfunding by individuals, mainly Nigerians abroad, is a significant revenue source for the group.

The report highlighted that more than $160,000 has been disbursed to media and broadcasting companies in Bulgaria, South Africa, and the UK. The group’s leader, along with associated individuals, addresses, and mobile numbers abroad, were profiled in the analysis. The report has been forwarded to law enforcement for further investigation.
