The launch of the Port Harcourt-Aba train service scheduled for April

Originally planned to begin operations by the end of March, the train services on the Port Harcourt to Maiduguri rail line have now been rescheduled to commence in April by the Federal Government.

This rail project linking Port Harcourt to Aba is a segment of the larger Port Harcourt-Maiduguri rail project initiated during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

Minister for Transportation, Saidu Alkali, while inspecting the reconstructed rail tracks in Port-Harcourt, announced the new commencement date, citing a delay by the project contractor for the postponement.

Alkali expressed confidence that the project would be completed and operational by April despite the revised timeline.

During his visit to Port-Harcourt, Alkali outlined plans to extend the rail line to connect with the Port Harcourt Port and Onne Port, in addition to the Port Harcourt to Aba route.

He reassured the public of the government’s dedication to seeing through ongoing projects nationwide, including the Calabar-Enugu-Abuja standard gauge rail line and the Ibadan to Abuja section.

Highlighting the importance of securing funding for these projects, Alkali emphasized the government’s commitment to project delivery and urged public support in these endeavors.
