The Labour Party Denies Takeover Claims, Says No Board of Trustees Exist

A recent report alleging a takeover of the Labour Party’s affairs has been dismissed by the party’s leadership, clarifying that there is no operational Board of Trustees as claimed.

The response follows remarks by Sylvester Ejiofor, the party’s BoT Chairman, asserting that the trustees had assumed control of the party’s operations after the end of Abure’s term and the controversial events that led to his reelection as national chairman in Nnewi.

The National Publicity Secretary of LP, Obiora Ifoh, refuted the existence of any BoT as claimed in the media.

In a statement issued, Ifoh mentioned that Ejiofor had resigned as the party’s first national chairman more than twenty years ago and had not been active in party activities or meetings since then.

Ifoh stated, “Since stepping down as the initial national chairman of the Labour Party over two decades ago, Ejiofor has had no involvement in any party engagements. He is not recognized within his own ward and has not fulfilled the basic membership requirements. It is baffling that he suddenly emerged after being ‘visited’ by some NLC leaders.”

“The Labour Party maintains that there is no existing Board of Trustees. The NLC has been advocating for the reconstitution of the BoT and the organization of a national convention. However, the majority of the individuals proposed for the BoT have left the party for other political affiliations, with some even contesting for various positions under different parties during the 2023 elections.”

“This situation is a result of desperation within the NLC ranks. Let the man enjoy his retirement in peace. Ejiofor should provide evidence of a single BoT meeting he has convened in the past decade. Enough of this political posturing, Julius Abure has been freshly elected as the Labour Party’s national chairman. We call upon our critics to cease hostilities and collaborate in nation-building endeavors.”
