The determination of the Army in eliminating criminals is unwavering – COAS

The message from the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, is crystal clear – criminal elements across the nation must cease their unlawful activities.

He emphasized that the Nigerian Army’s commitment to eradicating them is resolute.

Speaking at the conclusion of the 2024 Chief of Army Staff Conference in Abuja on Thursday, Lagbaja delivered a stern warning.

He stated, “I wish to caution criminal elements within our society that the Nigerian Army will relentlessly pursue them.

“I urge law-abiding citizens to continue supporting the Nigerian Army in our mission to safeguard our territory, protect the lives and assets of loyal citizens, and foster an environment conducive to good governance and economic growth.”

Lagbaja cautioned the troops against complacency, despite the achievements made in combating crime in the nation.

He observed that as total victory has not been attained, it is premature to indulge in celebrations.

Lagbaja remarked, “This assembly has reminded us that it is not yet time to proclaim complete victory. I have full confidence in the competence and dedication of the Nigerian Army personnel at all levels, ensuring substantial success to facilitate conditions necessary for good governance and economic progress.”

The Army Chief urged his soldiers to exhibit bravery in the fight against insecurity, underscoring that any hint of fear would embolden the criminals.

Lagbaja stressed, “It is imperative for you all to remain resourceful and dauntless because our adversaries thrive on weakness; therefore, we cannot display any. As highlighted by the CMI(A) in his presentation, fear is a significant tool employed by our adversaries, and we must reverse the tide and outmatch them in their own game.”

PUNCH Online reported that military operations have intensified recently, resulting in the elimination of several criminals, particularly terrorists.

For instance, from January to March 2024, more than 2,351 terrorists were neutralized.

Among them were 11 terrorist leaders.
