Restoration of Power on Kontagora-Yauri 132kV Line by TCN Following Vandalization

Following weeks of vandalization, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored electricity supply on the Kontagora-Yauri 132-kilovolt Single Circuit line in Niger State.

In a statement released on Thursday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, announced the completion of the restoration efforts.

The incident occurred on April 5, 2024, when towers T38, T39, and T40 collapsed as a result of vandalism.

After conducting rehabilitation and reconstruction work, including conductor stringing, the line was energized at 1:11 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

As a result, the Yauri 132/33kV substation is now receiving power supply from the national grid.

Following a tripping incident on April 5, 2024, at approximately 18:01, the Kontagora-Yauri 132kV Single Circuit line experienced issues with the earth fault relay indication. Subsequent attempts to reclose the line led to immediate tripping. During line inspection the next day, TCN engineers found that towers T38, T39, and T40 had collapsed entirely due to vandalism, as outlined in the statement.
