The Denial of Senate Ticket to Urhoghide in 2011 under AC-Idahosa

Charles Idahosa, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, has revealed the reasons behind Senator Matthew Urhoghide’s denial of the senatorial ticket of the Action Congress in 2011. The decision was made to protect the interests of Edo South (Benin) which were at risk due to the influence of politicians from other regions within the state.

In light of recent events where former governor Senator Adams Oshiomhole publicly apologized to Urhoghide upon his return to the APC, Idahosa commended this gesture. He also praised Urhoghide’s appointment as the Director General of the Edo State APC Campaign Council for the upcoming governorship election.

Reflecting on the past, Idahosa acknowledged his role as a political adviser to Oshiomhole during that period. He explained that the decision to deny Urhoghide the senate ticket was driven by the need to uphold the interests of Benin amidst a political landscape dominated by figures like the late Tony Anenih.

Despite the initial setback, Urhoghide eventually served two terms in the senate and has proven to be a distinguished representative for the region. Idahosa commended Urhoghide’s resilience and contributions, emphasizing his impact as one of the most prominent senators from the state.
