Teenage Boy in Osun Sentenced to Three Years in Jail for Stealing Water Taps

Sentenced to three years imprisonment by the Osun Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ede was 18-year-old Abiodun Adewuyi for stealing water taps.

Operatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC in Osun State arrested Adewusi after he was found removing the items at Durodola community in Owode-Ede town.

In a statement released in Osogbo, the Command spokesperson, Adeleke Kehinde, revealed that the suspect was apprehended in a building while dismantling the taps at 5:40 pm on April 16.

According to the statement, the crime committed by Adewuyi opposes Section 390 of the Criminal Code Law of Osun State.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate V. A. Adedokun at the Magistrate Court in Ede, Osun State on April 22, Adewuyi was convicted and given the three-year jail term.

“Charged by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Osun State Command, Adewuyi Jamiu Abiodun, an 18-year-old male, for the theft of seven brass water taps was arraigned.

“The arrest of the suspect occurred on April 16 at Durodola community, Owode Ede, Osun State around 5:40 pm while he was caught with two brass water taps,” stated Adeleke.

Further investigations disclosed that the suspect had a total of seven stolen water taps, which he would sell to scrap metal buyers after theft.

In response, the Osun NSCDC Commandant, Michael Adaralewa, urged parents and guardians to caution their children against engaging in criminal acts that could tarnish the family’s reputation.

He also assured that the NSCDC is committed to thwarting criminal activities across all parts of the state.
