“Sit down, grandmother!”, with those two words and a robot has rescued the army a 77-year-old Ukrainian woman who was fleeing the war on her own two feet, with her cane in her hands as the only support. The woman was in a dangerous area near the front and was at risk due to the proximity of the attacks.
As reported by the Ukrainian military media Militarnyi, members of the Third Army Corps discovered the woman moving on foot, disoriented and lost. The military captured the image thanks to one of their drones and moved to the area. In the video, broadcast by Reuters, you can see how a robot comes to her with a blanket and an inscription: “Sit down, grandmother.”
The woman, when she sees the device approaching, remains paralyzed, as if it did not inspire much confidence in her. In fact, there is a moment where he crouches down and places his hands above his head, as if protecting himself from an imminent attack. The old woman would think that this device, instead of helping her, was going to end her life.
The Cerberus unmanned ground systems unit, the heroes of the operation
The surprise, visible on his face, came when he discovered the inscription. The woman, whose name has not been released, does not hesitate for a moment to get on the device, adapted with a chair and a blanket. Once docked, the device begins its journey back to take it to the soldiers of the Cerberus unmanned ground systems unit.
The elderly woman was taken inside what appears to be a tent and then taken to a safe area. Reuters has been able to verify that the location shown in the first two shots is Stavky, in the Donetsk region (Ukraine), thanks to the buildings, street layout and vegetation, which match satellite images of the area.
The Russia-Ukraine war, a modern war
If the Ukrainian war has been characterized by anything, it is the use of modern technology during the conflict, especially drones. The country has developed the ‘Sting’, a technology capable of intercepting the feared Iranian-made ‘Shahed’ kamikaze missiles used by Russia during the conflict.
