Saint Petersburg airport recovers its activity after being attacked by Ukrainian drones

St. Petersburg airport has resumed its activity after two hours closed due to a Ukrainian drone attackas reported by local authorities.

The closure lasted more than two hours and caused the diversion of more than 20 aircraft to other airports.

Last night, the governor of the Leningrad region, Alexandr Drozdenko, reported the downing of two Ukrainian drones and that the airport would remain closed from 7:45 Moscow time. “To ensure the safety of flights of civil aircraft, today, starting at 07.45 Moscow time (04.45 GMT), temporary restrictions on the operation of Pulkovo airport Petersburg,” aviation regulator Rosaviatsia said in a statement.

4 drones destroyed and 16 intercepted

Although, hours later on Telegram and after solving the incident, Drozdenko reported that It wasn’t just two drones.but “the night and morning of January 4 set a record for the number of drones destroyed.” In total, he noted that on the territory of the Leningrad region there were four drones destroyed. While the Russian Ministry of Defense has reported that up to 16 were neutralized. He has also commented that they would have participated in the attack four unmanned devices.

He has also warned that the threat of new attacks has been liftedalthough the leaders of some regions have warned in the morning of new attacks with unmanned devices.
