Sad farewell as late makeup artist laid to rest in Akwa Ibom

Family members were overwhelmed with sorrow as the late Nollywood makeup artist, Abigail Edith Frederick, was laid to rest in her family home in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The 24-year-old artist, who tragically lost her life in a boat accident along with five other film practitioners, including Junior Pope, was buried in her hometown of Ikot Udoma, Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

After visiting the family over the weekend, the state governor, Umo Eno, ordered the exhumation of her remains from the riverbank where they were initially buried and their return for a proper burial in the state.

A candle-light procession was also held in her honor.

Sharing pictures from the burial, a Facebook user named Ubong David wrote, “Today, the late Abigail Frederick, the Nollywood makeup artist who tragically lost her life in the ill-fated boat mishap, has been laid to rest at the family compound in Ikot Udoma, Eket Local Government Area.”

The funeral service, presided over by the Church of Christ, Ikot Udoma, was attended by dignitaries such as the Eket Transition Committee Chairman, Akaniyene Tommey; Commissioner for Tourism, Charles Udoh; SA on Entertainment, Moses Eskor; Godfada Uko, members of the Eket Transition Committee, Nollywood actress Eve Esin, and others.

During his visit to the deceased’s family, Governor Eno announced automatic employment for her elder sister and the renovation of the family house.

Reflecting on the tragedy, Eno remarked, “This is deeply unfortunate. A young girl, only 24 years old, who completed her National Youth Service Programme just last year and decided to pursue her passion.

“Her story reflects our Arise Spirit, demonstrating that our young people are eager to pursue their passions without waiting for handouts. It is a tragic end to a promising life.

Eno emphasized the state’s support for the family, stating, “We don’t leave each other behind. The government will stand with the family and provide assistance,” he assured.
