Rwanda Confirms First Case of Coronavirus

Rwanda has officially reported its first case of coronavirus, making it the 19th African country to confirm a positive case of the COVID-19 virus, according to the Health Ministry’s announcement on Saturday.

The ministry disclosed that an Indian national, who arrived in the East African nation from Mumbai on March 8, tested positive for the virus after seeking medical assistance on March 13.

The individual is currently receiving treatment in stable condition and is isolated from other patients,” the ministry stated. “Contact tracing has been conducted for further management.”

RwandAir, the national airline of Rwanda, has been compelled to suspend all flights to India until April 30 and will provide refunds to affected customers.

Despite a worldwide total of 127,000 reported infections and 4,700 deaths from coronavirus, African nations continue to have the lowest number of cases.

Other African nations that have confirmed cases of the virus include Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Senegal, Togo, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Sudan, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
