Remo Stars secures a crucial victory over Rivers United to climb to second place in the NPFL

Boosting their title aspirations, Remo Stars staged an impressive 2-1 comeback triumph against Rivers United in Ikenne on Monday.

Andy Okpe, a former Remo Stars forward, broke the deadlock from the penalty spot in the 16th minute of the rescheduled matchday 22 clash.

The scoreline remained unchanged for the rest of the first half.

With determination, midfielder Hadi Haruna equalized by tapping in a low cross from Franck Mawuena in the 68th minute.

Mawuena then became the hero by scoring himself seven minutes before the final whistle, heading in Adams Olamilekan’s corner kick.

Following this victory, Remo Stars climbed to the second spot in the standings, trailing league leaders Rangers by just one point.

Rivers United, on the other hand, remains in 13th place with 40 points from 27 matches.
