Recent Developments in Edo State House of Assembly

Security measures have been heightened at the Edo State House of Assembly following the suspension of three members, aiming to prevent any potential disorder.

During a plenary session, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku suspended three members on allegations of planning a leadership change in the house and causing disturbance with “juju scare.”

The suspended lawmakers include two members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and one from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The suspended legislators are Okogbe Donald (PDP, Akoko-Edo II), Addeh Isibor (APC, Esan North-East I), and Iyamu Bright (PDP, Orhionmwon II).

Agbebaku, announcing their indefinite suspension, claimed that external influences were driving them to disrupt the house’s leadership.

On the next day, armed personnel from the Edo State Security Vigilante Networks (ESSN) took control of the assembly premises as the legislators convened a meeting off-site.

Despite the scheduled plenary at 9am, the lawmakers had not returned to the assembly by 1pm, leaving the legislative chamber secured and staff awaiting their return.

A staff member, speaking anonymously, expressed anticipation for the lawmakers’ return and the resolution of any disputes for the welfare of the state and constituents.

Amidst the suspension tensions escalated in the house, with the affected lawmakers contesting their suspension.

In the midst of the unfolding events, efforts are being made to maintain order and peaceful coexistence within the assembly.
