Police in Kano apprehend 8 individuals for attempting to disturb Commissioners inauguration

Eight suspected troublemakers were taken into custody by the Kano State Police Command for trying to disrupt the induction of four newly appointed commissioners at the Government House. The incident occurred on Thursday during a ceremony at the Council Chambers.

Confirming the arrests on Friday, the State Police Commissioner, Usaini Gumel, emphasized the security threat posed by the suspects at the Government House during the inauguration event.

Gumel issued a stern warning, stating that individuals causing security breaches or disturbances during important government functions will face arrest and legal action.

He expressed discontent with the presence of groups like “Yan Jagaliya” (thugs) loitering around important government buildings and disrupting official activities.

“The unapologetic leader of the detained thugs led his gang back to the venue, only to be apprehended by the crime prevention patrol team after continued vigilance,” Gumel mentioned.

He described the suspects as a pressure group affiliated with a controversial politician, attempting to sow chaos at the ceremony.

The suspects are currently in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department and will face charges following further investigations.

Assuring the public, the commissioner highlighted the steps taken to prevent any disruptions to peace and security across the State.

Expressing gratitude for the support and cooperation from the state’s citizens, Gumel reaffirmed the commitment of the police force to decisively deal with troublemakers or their backers who attempt to disrupt harmony.

It’s worth noting that the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, recently swore in four new commissioners, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso (Youth and Sport), Abduljabbar Garko (Land and Survey), Shehu Yanmedi (Special Duties), and Adamu Kibiya (Commerce and Industry), who were approved by the State House of Assembly.
