Lagos authorities find 86 rooms under bridge leased at N250k annually by tenants


86 rental units located underneath the Dolphin Estate Bridge in Ikoyi, with an annual rental fee of N250,000, have been uncovered by the Lagos State Government.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, disclosed this information through a video posted on his X account on Wednesday.

Wahab shared that the partitioned rooms measured “10×10 and 12×10” in size.

He also mentioned that the enforcement unit of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources successfully cleared all structures, including a container used for various illegal activities, from beneath the Dolphin Estate Bridge.

By posting videos, the commissioner stated, “A total of 18 individuals found squatting illegally under the bridge connecting Dolphin Estate were apprehended yesterday, April 30, 2024, by officials from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps.”

“A grand total of 86 rooms, partitioned as 10×10 and 12×10, along with a container engaged in illicit activities were discovered beneath the Dolphin Estate Bridge. They have all been removed by the enforcement team of the Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources.”

Kunle Rotimi-Akodu, a Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, also verified the clearance of unlawful occupants from underneath the bridge towards Dolphin Estate in Ikoyi.

Rotimi-Akodu reported that 23 individuals were apprehended during the operation, which was conducted by the officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, commonly known as KAI on Tuesday.
