Police in Ebonyi rescue two kidnapped children and arrest fake corps member

On Thursday night in Nwezenyi, Abakiliki Local government Area of Ebonyi State, two children who were kidnapped on January 22, 2024, were rescued and reunited with their parents, sparking celebrations.

Ngozi Nwibo, a seven-year-old kidnapped victim, was rescued in Oba, Idemili L.G.A. of Anambra State on Sunday, January 4, 2024. The female kidnapper was apprehended and taken to Ebonyi State Police Command Headquarters in Abakiliki.

Following her confession, she was escorted to Lagos State where the second victim, three-year-old Chinaza Nwachukwu was also rescued. However, the woman who bought her managed to escape arrest.

Expressing their joy, Mr and Mrs Simon Nwachukwu, the parents of Chinaza Nwachukwu, thanked God for the safe return of their daughter. They also emphasized the importance of justice for the perpetrators as a deterrent to others.

The parents of Ngozi Nwibo, Mr. and Mrs Okechukwu Nwibo, also conveyed their gratitude to friends, relatives and well-wishers for their support during their ordeal.

The landlord, Mr Francis Nwankwuda, who provided accommodation to the fake corps member, expressed relief at the rescue of the kidnapped children and thanked God for vindicating him after being detained for over two weeks during the police investigation.

Mr Sebastine Obiya, a teacher at the Special Science School Igbeagu, advised parents and caregivers to remain vigilant and ensure the safety of their children at all times. He also urged landlords and caretakers to verify the identity of potential tenants.

The harrowing incident began when a lady, posing as a Corps member named Mercy Francis (fake name), rented accommodation from the landlord and later absconded with the children who were entertained with videos. The parents reported the abduction to the police, leading to a three-week investigation and recovery of the children in good health.

When contacted, the Ebonyi State Police Command Headquarters Public Relations officer, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the heartwarming news.
