Police detain five individuals suspected of causing disturbances at LP convention grounds

At the current national convention of the Labour Party occurring at Grand Seasons Hotel in Nnewi, Anambra State, authorities have apprehended five individuals labeled as “troublemakers.”

These individuals were seized for circulating provocative flyers that criticized the party’s leadership at the convention site.

Following a series of questioning sessions, the detained individuals were transferred to the police headquarters for further interrogation.

They stand accused of attempting to instigate a disturbance at the ongoing convention.

In a related development, journalists were barred from gaining access to the convention venue.

Despite numerous attempts made by journalists to obtain access tags from the party’s spokesperson, Obiorah Ifoh, all requests were denied.

An inside source revealed that the aim of the troublemakers and their backers was to disrupt the convention proceedings.

The Labour Party has been grappling with internal conflict stemming from a leadership power struggle for the position of national chairman.

Insiders indicate that the party’s leadership is currently handling information dissemination cautiously to prevent unnecessary political tension.

On the other hand, ahead of the report submission time, presidential candidate Peter Obi from the February 2023 general elections had not arrived at the convention venue.
