Police and JAMB issue warning to UTME 2024 candidates about fake websites

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the police have jointly cautioned candidates getting ready for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to steer clear of fraudulent websites.

Emphasizing the importance of vigilance, the two organizations delivered this warning during a press briefing held in Abuja over the weekend.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, highlighted the existence of multiple counterfeit websites set up by dishonest individuals to deceive unsuspecting candidates.

Adejobi urged candidates to remain cautious of these tactics, underscoring that the fraudulent websites aim to mislead innocent candidates into divulging personal information like registration numbers, email addresses, and phone numbers.

Stressing their commitment to candidate security and exam integrity, both JAMB and the Nigeria Police Force strongly denounced these deceitful practices.

“Parents, guardians, and stakeholders are implored to ensure candidates only print their UTME Notification Slips from the officially approved website: www.jamb.gov.ng,” added Adejobi.

Familiar with the strategies utilized by scammers, particularly during annual assessment and admission processes, Adejobi mentioned that both organizations were actively raising awareness among candidates and the general public regarding these deceptive tactics.

“Visiting these bogus sites will provide candidates with inaccurate information, leading to potential exclusion from the upcoming exams,” he cautioned.

Further, he warned that any website other than www.jamb.gov.ng offering UTME slip printing services is illegitimate and devised to defraud hopeful candidates.

Meanwhile, JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, affirmed the Board’s unwavering dedication to fulfilling its responsibilities.

Benjamin advised candidates to disregard unsolicited messages as they likely originate from fraudsters aiming to con candidates.

The 2024 UTME is slated to kick off on Friday, April 19, and conclude on April 29, as per information from NewsNow.
