Personnel Found with Illegal Ammunition and Grenade in Maiduguri Arrested by Nigerian Army

An arrest for illegal possession of ammunition and explosives has been made by the Nigerian Army, following a routine search operation conducted by the Military Police K9 Team at the Borno Express Terminal in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The disclosure was made in a statement issued by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations.

During the operation, Lance Corporal Mubarak Yakubu was apprehended with 756 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition and four 36 hand grenades, which were cleverly concealed within a small bag of rice.

The statement emphasized the Nigerian Army’s zero-tolerance policy towards any illegal activities or violations of military regulations by its personnel.

Initial investigations revealed that the soldier had been removed from active theatre operations in March 2024 and was undergoing de-induction training at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry.

The soldier, who was on a welfare pass from Jaji to Kaduna and Adamawa between April 30, 2024, and May 13, 2024, at the time of the arrest, is currently in custody pending a thorough investigation.

The Army assured the public of its continued commitment to maintaining discipline within its ranks and ensuring the security of all Nigerians through decisive actions.
