Church Accountant Gets 18-year Jail Term for Alleged Theft of N15.5m Tithes and Offerings

Aku has been handed an 18-year sentence today for reportedly embezzling N15.5 million in funds sourced from donations, offerings, and tithes between the years 2016 and 2018.   He was presented before Justice Nathan Musa at the Adamawa State High Court where he entered a guilty plea to charges of forgery and obtaining money under false pretenses.

The Church of Brethren in Nigeria's accountant, Ibrahim Aku, has been given an 18-year prison term for committing fraud.   Between 2016 and 2018, Aku unlawfully obtained N15.5 million, which included offerings, donations, and tithes from the church. He admitted to forging documents and deceiving others to obtain money, resulting in his imprisonment without the option of paying a fine.   The former church accountant was apprehended after submitting falsified bank transaction slips to falsely indicate that the money entrusted to him had been paid.
