Prisoners escape Brazilian jail ‘and hold guards hostage’ in revolt over coronavirus crackdown (video)

The uprising followed the cancellation of the temporary release of 34,000 inmates from a semi-open regime due to concerns about the spread of the virus. The chaos resulted in numerous inmates fleeing from various prisons in different cities.
A video captured the chaotic scene in the coastal city of Mongaguá, showing a large number of men running out of a prison that had a capacity of around 2,800 inmates. In a backdrop, a voice could be heard telling the escaping inmates to return on Monday.
