Notification of Public Holidays in Nigeria

The announcement has been made by the Federal Government confirming the declaration of Friday, March 29, and Monday, April 1, 2024, as public holidays.

These dates have been designated for the celebration of Good Friday and Easter Monday for the year 2024.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Aishetu Ndayako, the declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the federal government.

Emulating the sacrifice and love exemplified by Jesus Christ in giving his life for the redemption of humanity is encouraged by Tunji-Ojo for Christians and all Nigerians.

The statement emphasized the values promoted by Easter which go beyond its religious significance, highlighting love, forgiveness, and compassion as crucial for fostering social cohesion and harmony.

Christians are called upon by the minister to adopt these virtues, as they have the potential to positively impact Nigeria’s socio-economic development by promoting unity, reducing conflicts, and fostering cooperation among citizens.

In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Nigerians are urged by Tunji-Ojo to demonstrate acts of charity and generosity to improve the living conditions of the less privileged members of society.

It was further mentioned that this aligns with the government’s efforts to bring about sustainable development and prosperity for all Nigerians under the administration of President Tinubu.

As Christians worldwide are wished a joyful and fulfilling Easter celebration, all Nigerians are encouraged to collaborate with the Tinubu-led Administration in its commitment to achieving lasting development and prosperity for the nation.
