NIS DG Emphasizes Equal Focus on All Sports, Not Just Soccer

In a recent media interaction, Prof Olawale Moronkola, the Director General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), highlighted that the institute is committed to the development of all sports, not solely soccer.

While acknowledging the global popularity of soccer, Moronkola emphasized that both Nigeria and the NIS are dedicated to giving adequate attention to all sports disciplines.

During a sports development coaching seminar held in Yola, Prof Olawale Moronkola and his team engaged with the Adamawa community, underscoring the importance of inclusivity across various sports.

Speaking to the media during the seminar, the NIS DG assured that all 49 sports federations, including soccer, receive equal importance from the institute.

He affirmed, “While we prioritize soccer development, we are equally committed to the advancement of all sports. Our training programs cater to coaches and managers across different sporting domains.”

Moreover, Prof Moronkola highlighted the NIS’s significant focus on emerging sports in Nigeria, such as fencing, arm wrestling, and the revival of traditional sports like netball.
