Nigerian Government Sets New Date for Commencement of Port Harcourt-Aba Rail Line Operations

After evaluating the reconstruction of the Port Harcourt-Aba Railway track, Minister of Transportation Senator Saidu Alkali disclosed a new commencement date for operations along the route.

During a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the minister highlighted that the train services, initially slated for March 2024, are now rescheduled for April due to technical challenges.

In his address, Senator Alkali mentioned, “This marks my second visit to Port Harcourt for the inspection of the rail line since assuming office as the Minister of Transportation.”

He added, “Although the initial timeline was set for March, during the inspection, I emphasized the need for a commitment from the consultant and contractor. Due to unforeseen technical complexities, the operational start date is likely to be pushed to April.”
