Nigerian chess master, Tunde Onakoya, perseveres through health challenges in marathon, supported by New York NGO

Gift of Chess, a non-profit organization based in New York, focuses on distributing chess sets globally. They shared that during an ongoing marathon, Nigerian chess master, Tunde Onakoya, faced severe vomiting and stomach pain but chose to continue without giving up.

In partnership with his American counterpart, Shawn Martinez, Onakoya aims to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest chess marathon at the renowned Times Square in New York City. The marathon is set to conclude on Friday, April 19.

Gift of Chess posted on X, “Witness #Tunde_OD enduring pain. Despite challenges, he persisted through intense vomiting and stomach pain.

“When given the option to give up, he declared, ‘I will continue for the aspirations of countless children.’

“Tunde has never backed down when it comes to children. Let’s show our support. To all who have liked a photo, we kindly request your donations.”

Onakoya’s objective is to engage in non-stop play for 58 hours against Martinez, with the aim of generating $1,000,000 to empower children across Africa.
