Nigerian Army Withdraws from Delta Community After Soldiers’ Killing

Troops of the Nigerian Army have been withdrawn from the troubled Okuama community in the Ughelli south local government area of Delta State.

Peace and security in the area were disrupted on the 14th of March when four Army officers and 13 soldiers were brutally murdered and mutilated, causing fear among the community members.

The deceased have been laid to rest, and the detained King has been released, allowing the people of Okuama to focus on rebuilding their homes and lives.

Governor Oborevwori confirmed the withdrawal of the Army from Okuama, emphasizing the importance of handling security issues with tact and patience.

He expressed gratitude towards the President, the Chief of Army Staff, and the Nigerian Army for their cooperation, which has enabled a peaceful resolution of the situation.

The Governor also appreciated the support of the National Assembly, traditional rulers, and other leaders during the Okuama crisis, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to peace and security.

As the residents of Okuama prepare to return home, the Delta State government is facilitating the process by establishing an Internally Displaced Persons Camp at Ewu to aid in their rehabilitation and quick resettlement.

Governor Oborevwori stressed the importance of collective effort in maintaining security, urging all citizens to contribute towards a safe and peaceful environment in the state.

He concluded by offering condolences to the families of the victims and expressed hope that such a tragic incident would never recur in Delta State.
