The Italian economist and politician Mario Draghi has been distinguished today with the Princess Award of Asturias for International Cooperation 2025according to the jury ruling read in the Regenta Hall of the Barceló Cervantes hotel in Oviedo.
Draghi, born in Rome in 1947, was President of the European Central Bank Between 2011 and 2019 and Prime Minister of Italy February 2021 to July 2022. His work in the ECB was key to stabilize the euro zonewith measures such as the emblematic phrase “I will do everything necessary” that earned him the nickname of “Super Mario”.
Draghi has also held relevant charges, such as Governor of the Bank of Italy (2006–2011), World Bank Executive Director (1985–1990) and General Director of the Italian Treasury (1991–2001).
This award, the last of the eight categories of the XLV edition, He recognizes his career in international cooperation, especially his defense of multilateralism and his impulse to shared policies in health, education, environment and European economic recovery.
The Princess of Asturias of International Cooperation distinguishes every year to personalities or institutions that promote global development and solidarity. In this edition, 31 nominations of 13 nationalities competed.
The Official delivery will take place in October in Oviedoin a ceremony chaired by the kings of Spain and the princess of Asturias.
