Manolo Gabbiadini, Italian striker, found positive for coronavirus

Manolo Gabbiadini, a former Southampton striker, has been confirmed to have contracted the coronavirus.

The 28-year-old Italian footballer, who is currently playing for Sampdoria, becomes the second player in Serie A to have tested positive for the disease, following Juventus defender Daniele Rugani’s positive test yesterday.

“Gabbiadini has a slight fever, but is otherwise in good condition,” stated Sampdoria.

“The club is implementing all the isolation procedures mandated by the authorities.”

Shortly after the announcement, Gabbiadini issued his own statement, saying: “I have tested positive for coronavirus. I want to thank everyone for the numerous messages I have received.

“I also want to assure you that I am well, so there is no need to worry. Follow the guidelines, stay at home, and everything will be fine.”

Gabbiadini, an Italy international, has previously played for Juventus, Napoli, and Atalanta.
