Jamie Carragher Slams Two Manchester United Signings as Major Failures in EPL

An outspoken Liverpool icon, Jamie Carragher, has heavily criticized Erik ten Hag’s choices in the player department at Manchester United.

After a promising debut season under Ten Hag’s guidance, the Red Devils have struggled in the current campaign, finding themselves in an unusual eighth place in the league standings.

Manchester United faced a low point in a recent match against Crystal Palace, enduring a comprehensive 4-0 defeat managed by Oliver Glasner.

This embarrassing loss has brought increased scrutiny on ten Hag, with Carragher questioning the Dutchman’s ability to select players, especially in the transfer market.

Echoing views reported by Metro, Carragher stated, “Similar to Arteta, Ten Hag was compelled to be more practical with the players at his disposal in his first season. Across his initial three transfer periods, United splurged over £380 million, resulting in more deadweight acquisitions than departures. Out of Ten Hag’s first-choice Premier League lineup (defeat against Brighton in August 2022), seven players would likely still feature in the starting XI.”

He added, “Only two have left the club, and one, Jadon Sancho, is on loan at Borussia Dortmund and poised to compete in the Champions League final. Contrary to Arteta’s successful transfers, Ten Hag’s choices have backfired, notably the acquisitions of Antony and Casemiro.”
