1,040 Illicit Drugs Found, Man Arrested for Trafficking

Obiefule Nwagha, a 43-year-old man, is currently in custody for transporting 1,040 tons of Indian hemp at the Ilufe waterside jetty at the Alaba International Market in Lagos State.

The incident reportedly took place on April 17 around 4:30 p.m., according to PUNCH Metro.

A police source from the division, who preferred to remain anonymous, shared that detectives from the Tactical Squad, Ijaniki, tracked a white Mercedes Benz mini-truck to the Ilufe Waterside Jetty. They discovered a flying boat unloading a substantial amount of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

The source revealed that 13 sacks containing a total of 1,040 wraps of the suspected Indian hemp were found. The driver of the truck claimed he was instructed by someone named Ifeanyi to transport the substances from Alaba International Market to Waterside Jetty Alaba.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hudeyin, confirmed the incident and mentioned that efforts were underway to apprehend Ifeanyi.

Hudeyin stated, “The investigation is ongoing, and effort is on to track and arrest the said Ifeanyi.”

In a previous report by PUNCH Metro, it was disclosed that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency intercepted a significant amount of illicit drugs smuggled into Lagos. The consignments had a total weight of 14,524.8 kilograms transported in two trucks and a J5 bus.
