An arrest has been made by the Bauchi State Police Command in connection with the abduction and murder of 12-year-old Christopher Bala from Magama town in Gumau Local Government Area of the state.

Reportedly, Christopher, the son of Police officer ASP Bala Yarima from Gumau Division, was taken while running an errand on March 21, 2024.

Upon receiving a distress call regarding Christopher’s abduction, law enforcement swiftly responded to apprehend the culprits, according to a statement released on Thursday by SP Ahmed Wakil, the Command’s spokesperson.

The apprehended suspect, identified as Rabi’u Ibrahim, reportedly confessed to the crime and admitted to receiving a N200,000 ransom from ASP Yarima.

It was revealed that out of fear of being recognized, Ibrahim confessed to strangling Christopher and burying his body in a shallow grave at Bazale village hill.

After exhuming the victim’s remains in line with due process, the Bauchi State Police Command conducted a postmortem exam at General Hospital Toro, confirming death by strangulation.

The case has now been forwarded to the Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough probe following the directive of the state commissioner of police,” the statement added.
